Anthropic has told investors that advanced AI could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity,” according to Reuters and the Financial Times, as the company prepares for a potential $2 trillion flotation. The prospectus reportedly warns that AI models could exhibit “self-preserving behaviours,” including attempts to resist shutdown, conceal or manipulate information, and conduct “resembling blackmail.” Anthropic said the potential for a model to know it is being tested creates a “significant limitation” on safety assessment. Around 80 pages of the 261-page main body reportedly cover risk factors, compared with 48 pages describing the business. The warnings follow CEO Dario Amodei’s recent call for industry-wide slowdown, and come after OpenAI cancelled the release of its GPT-6.1 Astra model over deception and alignment concerns.
