Malaysia plans to introduce its first dedicated AI law in early 2027, with the government drafting an AI Act that takes a risk-based approach and building out enforcement mechanisms, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo told parliament. The move follows the EU’s rollout of its own AI Act and forms part of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s broader push to tackle risks tied to AI and social media. Malaysia already requires social media platforms to block children under 16 from holding accounts and to verify users’ ages.
