Align, founded in 2020 by former Williams & Connolly litigation partner Sam Davidoff, has expanded from its original Align Binders product into AI-powered legal research with the launch of Align Research. The bootstrapped legal tech company describes Align Research as an agentic AI-based platform with a custom legal research pipeline designed to retrieve US case law without hallucinations. Align Binders, its digital binder tool for litigators, is already in use at several AmLaw 100 firms and by trial teams across the market. Align targets litigators from solo trial lawyers to AmLaw 100 litigation groups. Davidoff says AI has reopened a legal research market Align once regarded as saturated, and the company’s core development team has worked together for five years without meeting in person.
