Singapore champions global AI testing standardisation efforts on benchmarking and red teaming

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore has proposed a new international standard, ISO/IEC 42119-8, to establish consistent testing methodologies for generative AI systems, emphasizing benchmarking and red teaming to enhance reproducibility, comparability, and trust in AI systems. This initiative builds on existing national tools like AI Verify and aligns with global efforts to advance AI governance, safety, and assurance through standards development and international collaboration. The proposal will be discussed at the 17th ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 plenary meeting in Singapore, the first such meeting hosted in the ASEAN region, which is expected to gather over 250 AI experts and representatives from more than 35 national bodies, including major economies such as the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Germany, France, and the Republic of Korea, highlighting the increasing international focus on AI governance and standards development.
