Youth AI Privacy Act introduced

US senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) has introduced the Youth AI Privacy Act, aiming to protect minors from privacy and safety risks associated with AI chatbots. The legislation mandates clear disclosures that chatbots are not human, restricts the use of minors’ personal data for training AI models, bans advertisements targeting minors, and prohibits features that encourage excessive use, such as push alerts. The Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, and private plaintiffs are authorized to enforce these provisions.
