The Cyberspace Administration of China has released new guidelines to standardize the labeling of short video content across various platforms due to inconsistent labeling practices that mislead public perception and disrupt social order. This initiative includes standardizing tags for labeling, making content labeling mandatory for posting, and conducting reviews of existing content to ensure compliance. Major platforms such as Douyin, Kuaishou, Tencent, Xiaohongshu, Bilibili, and Weibo have already removed over 37,000 non-compliant videos, addressed more than 3,400 violating accounts, and added annotations to over 600,000 videos. Moving forward, the Administration will establish specific requirements and schedules for nationwide implementation of these labeling standards, alongside inspections and penalties for non-compliance.
