It is reported that the Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek has reportedly trained its latest AI model using Nvidia’s advanced Blackwell chips, despite U.S. export controls prohibiting such shipments to China. A senior Trump administration official indicated that these chips are likely housed in DeepSeek’s data center in Inner Mongolia. The U.S. government is investigating how DeepSeek acquired these restricted chips. The official also suggested that DeepSeek’s model may have utilized ‘distillation’ techniques from leading U.S. AI companies like Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI. Nvidia declined to comment, while the Commerce Department and DeepSeek did not respond to requests for comment.
