It is reported that the Chinese government has granted conditional approval for DeepSeek to purchase Nvidia’s H200 AI chips, a move that follows similar authorizations for domestic tech giants ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent to acquire over 400,000 units in total. While the United States formally cleared the H200 for export to China earlier this month, the final import licenses remain subject to regulatory conditions being finalized by China’s state planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, which aims to balance industry demand with the growth of domestic semiconductor manufacturers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted that the company has not yet received official confirmation of these orders as the Chinese government continues to define these stipulations, which may include mandates for purchasing a specific ratio of Chinese-made accelerators. The transaction faces further geopolitical tension following allegations from a senior U.S. lawmaker that Nvidia previously provided technical assistance to DeepSeek for AI models later used by the Chinese military, raising the stakes for Deepseek as it prepares to launch its next-generation V4 model in February 2026.
