China weighs blocking Nvidia H200 chip purchases on geopolitical tensions

It is reported that Chinese authorities are leaning toward blocking domestic internet and technology companies from purchasing Nvidia’s H200 chips amid mounting geopolitical tensions following recent US actions involving Venezuela’s leadership. It is also known from inside sources that Nvidia has demanded full upfront payment for H200 AI chips sold to China with no refunds, no cancellations, no changes, and no grace. Nvidia’s shifting of risk onto the buyer is reportedly driven by concerns that deals might collapse if the China government blocks H200 chips orders. For background, Chinese tech companies have placed over 2 million H200 chip orders, while Nvidia only has around 700,000 units in inventory. Further official details have yet to be revealed.
