It is reported that Singapore will adopt a proactive, practical, and collaborative approach to govern emerging technologies like agentic AI and quantum computing, as announced by Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo at the Singapore International Cyber Week conference. Recognizing the unique challenges these technologies pose, such as accountability in AI malfunctions and the potential for quantum computing to compromise current encryption methods, the government plans to update the Cyber Security Agency’s guidelines on securing AI systems, establish agreements with major tech companies to share AI-driven intelligence on cyber threats, and launch quantum readiness and safety documents for public consultation. Minister Teo emphasized the importance of building public trust through practical frameworks for testing and accountability, providing safe spaces for experimentation with appropriate safeguards, and taking timely action to address risks before these technologies are widely deployed.
